Illinois highway expansion to benefit SE Iowa

BIGGSVILLE, IL (KWWL) -- A highway expansion in Illinois could soon benefit travelers to southeast Iowa.  Illinois will expand U.S. Highway 34 to 4 lanes between Monmouth and Iowa.  Officials with the Illinois DOT announced plans to build a U.S. 34 4-lane bypass, essentially taking traffic around West Central High School in Biggsville.  The $60 million project will be paid for with capital construction funds. It is expected to begin in November 2012 and could end in 2014.  Biggsville is about 25 miles west of Galesburg in western Illinois.
