UNI student makes finals for Entrepreneur of the Year

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL)-- Nick Cash never imagined his thoughts and ideas would make him a finalist for College Entrepreneur of the Year in Entrepreneur Magazine.

"Never once not until I took Laurie's class about a year ago did I ever think on yeah a college student they can start a business and run it," said Cash.

Cash came up with an idea for a company where authors could publish their literature digitally.

He calls his business "Book Haterery."

"So getting their book on the Amazon Kendal and all those new e-reading devices and manage all that from one central platform," said Cash.

He is the only Iowan and just one of five college students who could be featured in the Entrepreneur magazine.

It is hard for him to think he could be on the cover.

"UNI would be on a second national cover which would be pretty exciting."

Cash's mentors say he's a role model and they aren't surprised his company is getting this high of recognition.

"A young man who just goes out there and gets after it and I always tell him he is very self taught. He just really goes deeper in everything. He studies and researches and he just loves learning," said Laurie Watje, Student Business Incubator Manager.

Cash has been working toward being an entrepreneur since he was 16 years old.

For young people who want to follow in his footsteps he has one piece of advice.

"Get started. Your idea will always change. I always try to tell people you need a direction not an idea because you will find an idea you just have to start moving in that direction."

Nick Cash is the first UNI student to ever make the finals for Entrepreneur of the year.

Voting is going on now and ends September 10th.
