Non stop fun in the sun for the Iowa State Fair

DES MOINES (KWWL) – It was a hot start for the Iowa State Fair as thousands of Iowans made their way to Des Moines.

Fair officials are encouraging its guests to stay cool and hydrated as temperatures stay high for the next few days.

Fairgoers are allowed to bring in bottles of water, although coolers, glass bottles and food aren't allowed. There are several drinking fountains throughout the fairgrounds.

There are also two water features where guests can cool off, at the Pella Plaza and Legacy Terrace.

Guests can also get out of the sun in one of the air-conditioned buildings on the grounds, including the Richard O. Jacobson Exhibition Center, Bruce L. Rastetter 4-H Exhibits Building, and The Des Moines Register Service Center.

If the heat gets to be too much, the American Red Cross has two full-service centers on the fairgrounds.
