First KWWL live truck caught fire in 1990

BUCHANAN COUNTY (KWWL) -- On their way back from Dubuque along Highway 20, two KWWL employees watched as the station's first live truck caught fire on the side of the road August 10,1990.

Occupants Greg Henn and Joel Dickman smelled something burning, pulled over, and were barely able to rescue the camera and tape deck before it burst into flames.

A production crew that happened to be following behind the truck stopped and captured some of this video. No one was hurt, but the Suburban was a total loss.

Shortly after that, KWWL purchased their very first live van. It still runs fine and is still in use to this day.
