Storms cause flash flooding in Waverly

WAVERLY (KWWL) -- Waverly experienced severe thunderstorms late Tuesday night causing some flash flooding and downed tree limbs.

Strong winds took down many branches around town and even tore down the Half Off store's front awning. Pea-sized hail was also seen for part of the storm, but no serious damage was caused by it. Heavy rainfall resulted in flash flooding on many of Waverly's streets, including most of the north side of Bremer Avenue. The disc golf course on the north side of Fifth Avenue was also completely underwater.

City crews began cleanup immediately on Wednesday morning, picking up branches and limbs and hauling them to the landfill. Many flooded roadways remained under some water as the city placed pumps in the drainage system. The pumps have pulled most of the standing water away from the roads and into the city sewers.
