UPDATE: Both directions of I-35 closed near Ames due to flooding

Posted:

AMES (KWWL) -- The Iowa Department of Transportation has closed both the northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 35 near the U.S. 30 interchange due to flooding.

I-DOT also says that both lanes of U.S. 30 from I-35 to U.S. 69 are also closed due to flooding.

Southbound I-35 traffic must use a lengthy detour that extends east on U.S. 30 to U.S. 65, southwest on U.S. 65 to I-80 at Altoona, and then west on I-80 to the I-35/I-80/I-235 interchange.

Northbound I-35 will use the same detour but in reverse.

The Iowa State Patrol is assisting with traffic management in the area. Traffic backups are occurring and delays are to be expected.
