WATERLOO (KWWL) -- The World Health Organization declared the H1N1 flu pandemic officially over on Tuesday.
The decision comes months after many countries started canceling vaccine orders and shutting down hot lines.
WHO Director-General Margaret Chan said the organization's emergency committee of top flu experts advised her that the pandemic had "largely run its course."
But Chan cautions that this doesn't mean the H1N1 virus is gone, she expects that the virus will take on the behavior of a seasonal flu and could circulate for years to come.
More than 18,000 people have died worldwide since the virus first appeared.
