Trade in your light bulbs for free

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- Cedar Valley residents can trade in their old incandescent light bulbs for Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs) on Thursday at the Cedar Falls Public Library.

Green Iowa AmeriCorps, a nonprofit based at the University of Northern Iowa's Center for Energy and Environmental Education, will be collecting and giving out light bulbs from 8:30 a.m. until supplies last.

Each household can trade up to five light bulbs.

According to Energy Star, a CFL will save about $30 over its lifetime and pay for itself in about 6 months. It uses 75 percent less energy and lasts about ten times longer than an incandescent bulb.
