IA colleges receive grants to counsel students

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KWWL)--- Three Iowa colleges will soon be getting a boost thanks to additional federal funding announced by Iowa Congressman Bruce Braley.  $830,000 in grant funding is being awarded to the University of Northern Iowa, Scott Community College, and the University of Dubuque.  The grants were made available through the US Department of Education's student support services program.

"Investing in education is investing in our economy.  Our state is a leader in higher education and has a tradition of graduating highly successful and competitive young professionals. This grant money will help these institutions maintain that tradition and provide the highest quality education possible," Braley said.

The student support services program helps provide academic, financial, and personal counseling services to low-income, first generation and disabled college students.
