Iowa hires Looper to replace Blevins

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- The University of Iowa has found their replacement in the softball program.  Long-time Texas assistant Marla Looper will take over the reigns in Iowa City.

Looper is coming in from one of the winningest programs in the country as she assisted a Longhorn team that reached the NCAA tournament 9 times during her 11 year career.  During that time the Longhorns won 3 College World Series titles.

Prior to that Looper had a short stint at Iowa State.  During her playing days, she was an All-American at Florida State in 1993.

Looper takes over for Gayle Blevins who resigned after 23 years at the helm.  Last year she led the Hawks to a 25-23 record finishing 5th in the Big Ten Conference.
