Hundreds of students participate in Iowa Private College Week

WAVERLY (KWWL)-- High School seniors Erika Hammar and Allison Emerich have hopes of playing basketball in college.

These two teammates and friends are participating in Iowa Private College Week in hopes to narrow down their college search.

"I have no idea where I want to go so I just want to kind of see everywhere, look over my options," said Hammar.

Iowa Private College Week gives students the opportunity to visit 29 different private colleges across the state.

Organizers say its a great way for students to really get a feel for the college.

"Many times you will talk to students and they will say it just was the right fit, and we know from experience that if students have that feeling they are more likely going to be successful and achieve their goal of a college education," said Todd Coleman, Vice President for Wartburg Admissions.

And one of the most important ways in getting that feel for a college is a campus tour.

"To get the experience and to see the campuses and to know if you really want to come back," said Emerich.

If the students participating in Iowa Private College Week visit three different colleges they could put their name into a drawing for a $500 book scholarship at their school of choice.
