Shoes may save seniors from falls

(KWWL) -- Wearing shoes may help prevent falls among the elderly.

According to a new Harvard study, just over half of falls occur when the person is barefoot or wearing socks or slippers.

Previous studies have shown slippers are by far the most common type of footwear worn among older adults, but slippers were worn in 27 percent of the falls in this study.

Researchers say the best shoe for this population is a well-fitting, low-heeled shoe with slip-resistant soles.
