Cyclones look to protect Robinson

AMES, Iowa (AP) -- Iowa State running back Alexander Robinson has taken up yoga to stay healthy for the upcoming season.

Speaking Wednesday during Iowa State's media day, Robinson acknowledged the stretching exercises can be painful. But the key cog in Iowa State's offense is willing to do anything to avoid bumps and bruises like the nagging groin injury that marred an otherwise excellent 2009 season.

The Cyclones know they can't afford to be without Robinson for long. He rushed for 1,195 yards and six touchdowns in 2009 despite the injury.

Iowa State offensive coordinator Tom Herman says the Cyclones offense will go as far as Robinson takes them.

Iowa State opens practice Thursday. Its season opener is Sept. 2 against Northern Illinois.
