Nominations sought for award

JOHNSON CO. (KWWL)--- The Johnson County Historical Society is seeking nominations for the Irving Weber Award.  This award was created more than a decade ago to honor people or groups that have made major contributions in preserving local history.

Contributions that may qualify for the award include:  saving a building or historic site, installation of a sign or marker, restoration of a building or site, production of media materials about historical places or people; or financial support of such projects.  The award was named in honor of the late Irving Weber, Iowa City's official historian and a long time contributor to local history through his books and newspaper articles.

The Irving Weber Award will be presented at the Johnson County Historical Society's annual meeting and dinner in October.  To suggest an individual or group for the award, send a letter of nomination to:  Irving Weber Award Committee/J.C.H.S., P.O. Box 5081 Coralville, IA  52241.

The letter of nomination should include the name and address of the nominee(s); a description of the nominated activity or activities; a visual representation of the nominated activity; and two letters of support from individuals not directly involved the nominated project.  Nominations must be received at the address above by Friday, September 17, 2010.  Questions about the award and the nomination process should be addressed to the Johnson County Historical Society at 351-5738 or by email.
