Send-off ceremonies held across Iowa

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- Send-off ceremonies were held across Eastern Iowa as communities gathered to honor the soldiers and say goodbye.

The National Guard is sending more than 2,800 Iowans to Afghanistan later this year. It's part of the largest deployment of Iowa troops since World War II.

Soldiers arrived early to visit with friends and family before the ceremony. Afterwards, they loaded onto buses and headed to Mississippi for training.

Tuesday's ceremonies were held in Cedar Falls, Iowa City, Oelwein and Peosta. 

Two more ceremonies will be held in Cedar Rapids this weekend.  The information is below.
