Arson suspected in Cedar Rapids flood damaged home

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Officials say a fire in a Cedar Rapids flood-damaged house appears to be arson.

A passerby reported a fire at 10:18 p.m. Monday night at 304 K Avenue NW.  Firefighters arrived on the scene to see the fire taking over the main floor of the gutted-out single story home.

According to the City Assessor's web site the house is owned by the City of Cedar Rapids.  It is said to be one of the 192 properties that are eligible for voluntary property acquisition through FEMA's Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.

Fire officials say the fire looked to be intentional.  Anyone with information is asked to call the Iowa Arson Hotline at 1-800-532-1459 or the Cedar Rapids Fire Department at 319-286-5200.

There were no injuries reported.
