UI Campus Wellness and Recreation Center open for business Aug. 2

IOWA CITY (KWWL) - The University of Iowa Campus Wellness and Recreation Center officially opens Monday. The $70 million, 215,000-square-foot center provides fitness and aquatic equipment and facilities for students and others, and includes offices for UI Wellness and Health Iowa, Recreational Services, and the UI men's and women's swimming and diving teams.

The new facility's highlights include a 52.5-foot climbing wall, a 20,042-square-foot fitness area with equipment on three levels, competition and dive pools, a leisure swimming pool and spa, two gymnasiums, a 1/9-mile indoor track, multiactivity court, three activity rooms, steam and sauna rooms, café, and locker rooms.

Memberships and locker rentals are available beginning Monday, Aug. 2. The center will offer a free two week trial between Aug. 2 and 15; a membership will be required to use the facility starting Aug. 16.

The center's dedication is scheduled for 2–6 p.m., Friday, Aug. 27, with the formal program starting at 3:30 p.m.
