West takes out defending champs with 11-1 win

DES MOINES (KWWL)-- It didn't take Iowa City West very long to erase any bad memories from the year before.

The Trojans used back-to-back 3-run innings to propel them to an 11-1 win, avenging their loss last year to Sioux City North in the 4A championship game.

Ryan Rumpf helped West roll with 3 RBI's at the plate, and only gave up one earned run on the mound over six innings.  With the win, Rumpf improves to 11-0 on the season.

"You know getting two runs in the first takes a lot of pressure off the pitchers shoulder.  You know the two runs really helped and as a pitcher you gotta get out there and do all you can," Rumpf said.

The Trojans will face top-seeded Dubuque Hempstead in the class 4A semifinals.
