Hole in dike near Olin

JONES COUNTY (KWWL) -- The sheriff in Jones County says people near Olin are "gearing up for a repeat of 2008."

A 40-foot hole opened in a dike north of town around 2:00 Monday afternoon.

Farm fields and the backyards of nearby homes are taking on water. So far, most of the damage seems to be on the west side of town, but roads and yards are also covered on the east side of town.

Authorities says the area of the Dike has seen problems before, but the dike did not break during the 2008 flood. The flooding is coming from the Wapsipinicon River and the Walnut Creek.
