Solon shuts out Interstate 35 for first round win

Posted:

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- Solon starter Brandon Shulista tossed a complete game shutout in Monday's first round powering the top ranked Spartans past Interstate 35 4-0.

Derrick Loveless got the Spartans on the board early with a first inning RBI single scoring Marshall Koehn.  They added to that lead in the second as Koehn singled in Ryan Butler for the 2-0 advantage.  Solon added 2 more for the final margin, while Shulista completely shut down the Roadrunners allowing no walks, only 2 hits, while striking out 9.

Solon next meets up with Waterloo Columbus in Thursday's semifinal.  The Sailors rallied to roll over #7 Fort Dodge Saint Edmond 16-6 in Monday's first game.
