Four more counties added to disaster proclamation

Posted:

DES MOINES (KWWL) - Governor Chet Culver added Buchanan, Clayton, Dickinson and Jackson counties to a disaster proclamation due to recent flash flooding.  The Governor issued disaster proclamations for Dubuque, Delaware and Jones counties on Friday and Saturday.

The disaster proclamation authorizes the implementation of the State Individual Assistance Grant Program to assist eligible residents of those counties. The state's Individual Assistance Program provides up to $5,000 in reimbursements for damages incurred for individuals and families whose income is less than 200 percent above the poverty level. That means individuals making $21,660 or less may qualify, and a family of four making $44,100 or less may qualify.

Application information for residents in counties where the State Individual Assistance Grant Program has been made available is posted on the Department of Human Services website. Visit the Department of Human Services website (www.dhs.state.ia.us) and click on Storm Help, or call toll-free 1-866-434-4692.

The following 37 counties are also under state disaster proclamations for state Individual Assistance from earlier storms in June and July:

Black Hawk, Buena Vista, Butler, Clay, Davis, Emmet, Fayette, Hamilton, Howard, Humboldt, Jasper, Jefferson, Kossuth, Lee, Lucas, Lyon, O'Brien, Osceola, Palo Alto, Van Buren, Webster, Cherokee, Decatur, Franklin, Hancock, Mahaska, Marion, Monroe, Polk, Ringgold, Shelby, Sioux, Taylor, Union, Wapello, Warren, and Wright
