Part of Cascade evacuated over dike concerns

DUBUQUE COUNTY (KWWL) -- The Cascade Fire Department evacuated residents living from Highway 136 East to the North Fork of the Maquoketa River and South of 3rd Avenue SW on Saturday morning.

Dubuque County Emergency Management says the evacuation was the result of pressure on the south dike and concern that the dike might fail. Firefighters are monitoring the dike and responding to any boils on the city side of the levee.

The Iowa Department of Transportation has closed Highway 52 North from the NW Arterial or Highway 32 to South Mound Road. Semi and truck traffic is being detoured from Luxembourg on Highway 136 South and then on Highway 20.
