Independence watching river level

INDEPENDENCE (KWWL) - The water continued to rise in Independence Saturday morning. Many people living near the river have moved things out of their basement in anticipation of the river level continuing to rise.

At 9:00 a.m., the Wapsipinicon River was at 17.51 feet. The record for the Wapsi in Independence is 22.4 feet. The record was set back in May of 1999. Flood stage is 12 feet.

Law enforcement has closed several roads in town.
