Iowa airports receive federal grants

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KWWL)--- Senator Tom Harkin announced Wednesday that $3,120,986 in funding from the Federal Aviation Administration will be going to help improve airports across Iowa.  Harkin is a senior member of the panel, which funds transportation initiatives.  

"Continuing to make improvements to local airports is important to the economic health of these communities, where the availability of a nearby airport is a valuable asset to attract new businesses to the area," Harkin said.

The grant funding levels and airports are listed below.

Fairfield Municipal- $142,500 for a master plan update
Clarion Municipal- $144,238 for taxiway rehabilitation
Oelwein Municipal- $371,907 for the construction of snow removal equipment building
Schenck Field- $460,846 for hangar construction
Fort Dodge Regional- $262,667 for runway rehabilitation design
Osceola Municipal-$127,012 for construction of a t-hangar with a taxi lane
Estherville Municipal- $117,135 for rehabilitation of the access road
Pella Municipal- $86,450 for runway rehabilitation
Mason City Municipal- $24,463 for runway incursion markings
Waverly Municipal- $262,768 for runway and apron rehabilitation
Dubuque Regional- $950,000 for runway safety area improvements
Creston Municipal- $171,000 for acquisition of snow removal equipment
