Measure your neck

A new study says measuring body fat at the neck might be more accurate and less embarrassing for kids.

Doctors usually measure a child's body fat by calculating the body mass index, or BMI, based on height and weight.

However, a new University of Michigan study shows, instead of checking the waistline, measuring the thickness of the neck might be a better way to see if your child is obese.

That's because BMI doesn't account for muscle mass.
