Butler County receives state disaster recovery award

ALLISON (KWWL) -- Rebuild Iowa honored the Butler County Disaster Recovery Coalition Tuesday.

Lt. General Ron Dardis presented the award for service during the board of supervisor's meeting in Allison.

The county coalition was formed after the tornado hit Parkersburg and surrounding communities two years ago, and floods a few weeks later.

Butler County's coalition is one of nine recipients of this award, which recognizes individuals and organizations going above and beyond the call of duty in Iowa's disaster recovery efforts.

"Anytime General Ron Dardis from the RIO offices takes the time to come to your community to present an award, it's a big deal," Butler County Emergency Management Coordinator Mitch Nordmeyer said.

Recovery efforts for the 2008 disasters are beginning to wind down, but the Butler County group plans to continue meeting on a regular basis to be ready for any future disasters.
