State heat record set in 1934

KEOKUK (KWWL) -- A state heat record was set July 20, 1934.  Temperatures reached 118°F (48°C) in Keokuk that day.

1934 was during what's called the 'Dust Bowl,' which was a period of little rain, high temperatures, and agricultural uncertainty.

The highest recorded temperature in the United States was set at 134°F in Death Valley, CA on July 10, 1913.
