Man arrested after chase and shootout

MUSCATINE CO. (KWWL) --  A Cedar County man has been arrested after leading officers on a chase that started near Tipton and ended in rural Muscatine County.

The Iowa State Patrol says 18-year old Michael Meyer stole his father's car on Monday.

Tipton police found the car around 10:00 p.m. Monday night.

That's when officers say Meyer took off and headed out of Tipton towards Bennett.

The Iowa State Patrol, along with the Cedar County Sheriff's Department joined the chase.

Deputies say Meyer was heading toward Wilton when officers tried to stop the car with stop sticks but Meyer kept going into Muscatine County.

Deputies then tried to ram Meyer who shot at deputies. Deputies returned fire and followed Meyer into a corn field.

Meyer was eventually arrested northeast of Muscatine.

He is currently in the Muscatine Co. Jail, charges are pending.

Iowa DCI is assisting in the investigation.
