UPDATE: Hudson man drowns in Mississippi River

PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, WI (KWWL) -- Crawford County Wisconsin Sheriff Mike Moran confirms that a Hudson man drowned in the Mississippi River on Saturday.

Moran says that Larry Sash, 42, was swimming in the river at Dillman's Slough north of Prairie du Chien shortly before 7:00 pm Saturday night when he disappeared into the water.  He was swimming with friends from a nearby boat.

A search for Sash began, but was called off at 9:15 pm because of darkness.

The search resumed at 6:00 Sunday morning.  Sash's body was found at around 6:40 Sunday evening.

The Crawford County Coroner declared Sash dead at the scene.  An autopsy was scheduled for Monday at the V.A. Medical Center in Madison, Wisconsin.

Crews from 13 fire departments, four dive teams, Interstate EMS, Crawford County Emergency Management, the Iowa DNR and Wisconsin DNR all helped in the search for Sash.
