A-P Little League baseball welcomes visiting team with open arms

PARKERSBURG (KWWL) -- Saturday night two little league teams faced off, but the game also brought two communities closer together. A few weeks after the EF-5 tornado hit Parkersburg, families in Lynnville Sully decided to figure out a way to help Aplington-Parkersburg's fourth grade little league team.

While the kids played their game in 2008, folks in Lynnville Sully raised about $10,000 for Parkersburg's recovery. The money helped purchase a new scoreboard, and paid for them to fix the damaged baseball fields.

Saturday, Parkersburg welcomed Lynnville Sully families to their town for the first time since the tornado. The kids are now in 6th grade, going into 7th. They're doing everything they can to let the visiting team know how grateful they are. But as one organizer put it, there are no words to say thank you for all the Lynnville Sully families have done.

Brothers Market in Parkersburg donated forty pounds of pulled pork for the event. Two years ago, A-P lost 5-6. The local boys were ready for a win this time around.

Both teams are hoping to make this an annual event as the kids grow older.
