Athlete of the Week: Hudson's Cale Henke

HUDSON (KWWL) -- The latest KWWL-TV Athlete of the Week is a high school baseball player who has the  Hudson Pirates within two victories of the Iowa State Baseball Tournament for the first time in years. His name is Cale Henke.

Only a sophomore, Hudson pitcher, Cale Henke, is already one of the best pitchers Hudson has ever sent to the mound.      

The 6-2 fireballer has been pitching Varsity for Hudson since he was in 8th grade---and Hudson baseball Coach, Ray Harrington, knows he has something real special in his Super Soph.

Cale believes with continued good hitting, the Pirates are in a great spot to make state.

On the mound this season, Cale has a 7-1 record and 3 saves. He already has 100 strike outs this season in just 51 innings. Henke has more than 200 strikeouts already in his young varsity career. His ERA is a mere point 81.

Cale's only loss this season came against conference champion N.U. High in extra innings. in that game, cable hit this home run for the pirates At the plate, Cale Henke is a slugging machine. this season, He's batting a whopping 441, with 7 home runs and a slugging percentage of- 868.

But, for Cale, it's not about him--it's about the Pirates and getting to the State Tournament.
