IBM awards 20 KidSmart Early Learning programs

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- IBM in Dubuque has awarded 20 KidSmart Early Learning programs to The Children's Trust.  It's a giving circle of the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque.

The Children's Trust will use the KidSmart Early Learning programs in early childhood learning centers in the Dubuque area. The program integrates interactive learning activities into the pre-kindergarten curricula.

KidSmart programs are already in 60 countries internationally and serve two million children.

IBM's KidSmart program includes the Young Explorer™, a computer housed in brightly colored, kid-friendly Little Tikes™ furniture. It includes educational software to help children learn and explore concepts in math, science and language.

The computer centers also help children learn socialization skills and prepare children for future success in school.  It will also help level the playing field and ensure all children have access to educational tools.

These computers are distributed to non-profit childcare centers that serve the area's most at-risk children. A group of volunteers will work with The Children's Trust in deciding where these Young Explorer units will go.

The Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque, The Children's Trust and IBM plan to distribute these units in early August.
