UPDATE: House fire and explosion in Middle Amana

MIDDLE AMANA (KWWL) -- Firefighters from at least four departments are on scene of a house fire in Middle Amana that led to an explosion.

Crews were called to 2812 G Street at around 10:30 Thursday morning.

A neighbor on her way home noticed smoke coming from the attached garage and alerted the man inside the home.

After he got out and was standing outside, something in the garage exploded, knocking the man backwards and singing part of his face.  His injuries are minor.

The man tells us that a 16-year old dog and a bird died in the fire.

Crews are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.

Fire crews from Amana, Oxford, Tiffin and Florence Township helped battle the fire.

Tonight on the KWWL News at 5 and 6, Jason Epner talks with the homeowners and the woman that first noticed the fire.
