Study shows effect of September 11 attacks on child victims

Posted:

(KWWL) -- It's been almost nine years since the September 11th attacks.

Now several studies are looking at how that day affected Manhattan-area children.

Researchers found pre-schoolers were more impacted if their mothers suffered disaster-related psychological problems than if they had direct exposure to the attacks themselves.

And for those young children who were directly exposed, their mothers' mental well-being made the biggest difference on how they were able to cope.

Teenagers and their moms had generally high levels of PTSD and depression, especially those who actually saw the planes hit the towers.
