NELLIS AFB, NV (KWWL) -- Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada held a memorial service for a 31-year-old rescue helicopter pilot who died July 2 from injuries sustained during a crash in Afghanistan on June 9th.

Capt. David Wisniewski was remembered Thursday morning at the Air Force Thunderbirds hangar on the base outside Las Vegas.

Wisniewski was from Moville, Iowa and graduated from Woodbury Central High School. He graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 2002.

Wisniewski was assigned to the 66th Rescue Squadron at Nellis.

His father is Chet Wisniewski, the Activities Director at Iowa City Regina High School.

Four other airmen died in the crash and two were injured.

The incident is under investigation.
