Linn County breaks ground on new juvenile justice center

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL)-- Linn County has taken another major step in flood recovery.

Governor Chet Culver was in Cedar Rapids to help break ground on a brand new $6.7 million dollar juvenile justice center, which was located in the Linn County Courthouse before the flood.

Governor Culver's I-JOBS program will pay for $3.7 million of the construction costs.

This marks the second of several flood-recovery construction projects for Linn County.

"This is the beginning of a long recovery but it is important to highlight success and highlight progress," Governor Culver said.

The new facility will be built one foot above the 2008 flood level.

It will house juvenile probation offices and the juvenile court functions.
