Waterloo school board seeks funds for new dress code

Posted:

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- With the new dress code taking effect in Waterloo schools in the fall, many are concerned about how they will pay for the new clothes.  The Waterloo Board of Education is looking for funds to help those families who will need financial assistance to buy uniform clothes for their children.

On Monday, the school board approved submitting grants requesting $35,000 to four foundations as part of the fundraising effort.  The Waterloo school district is also sending out mailings requesting donations of money and clothing.

The new dress code requires solid color tops and bottoms as well as certain footwear and jackets.  Clothing that is no longer allowed includes sleeveless shirts, jeans and sandals.
