City purchases hotel, flood-damaged building

WATERLOO (KWWL)-- The city of Waterloo will soon own the Grand Hotel on West Mullan Avenue.

Mayor Buck Clark and council members voted Monday night to buy the hotel and eventually tear it down for future development.

Pending environmental tests, the city will pay more than $800,000 for the 100-room hotel, plus up to $20,000 in closing costs.

Hotel guests have until August 30th to find other housing.

Council members also approved the purchase of the flood-damaged Teamsters Union Local 650 building on Jefferson Street. It's appraised at $157,000.
