Iowa City 21+ ordinance to go before the voters

Posted:

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- The debate on whether people under 21 should be allowed in Iowa City bars will be up to voters.

After a petition with more than 1600 signatures Iowa City council members reviewed the ordinance Monday night.

The Council voted against repealing the law, then voted to put the measure on the ballot.

This will be the second time in three years that voters will decide how old someone must be to enter a bar at night.

In 2007, a proposal to raise the minimum age to 21 was defeated.
