Royce White commits to Iowa State

AMES (KWWL) -- One of the nation's top high school forwards is now an Iowa State Cyclone.  Minnesota transfer Royce White committed to ISU Monday.

It's a big pick-up for new coach Fred Hoiberg, but there's no doubt it also comes with a lot of risk due to White's past.

The 2009 Minnesota Mr. Basketball originally signed with the Golden Gophers, but never played a game after being suspended for a shoplifting incident at the Mall of America.  He left Minnesota after being fingered in an alleged theft of a laptop computer from a dorm room.

He'll have 4 years of eligibility and is applying for a waiver from the NCAA to play this year.  ISU should know the status of that in the early fall.
