Democrats Want 2012 Caucus on February 6th--Keep Iowa First

The Iowa would retain its 'First in the Nation' status if the full Democratic National Committee approves a recommendation from its Rules and Bylaws Committee.

The DNC's Rules and Bylaws Committee Friday voted to recommend February 6th, 2012 as the date for the 2012 Iowa Democratic caucus. that move would keep Iowa the First in the Nation.

"We are very excited about this recommendation," said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Sue Dvorsky. "This  is an important step, but we remain cautious about Iowa's First in the Nation status,"

The final vote to approve caucus dates  and other 2012 delegate selection rules will be made in August by the full Democratic National Committee. Since 1972 the Iowa caucuses have been the first major electoral event in the nation.

The committee also voted unanimously to hold the New Hampshire primary on February 14th, Nevada caucus on February 18th, and the South Carolina primary on February 28th, 2012.
