Residents Urged To Report Flood Damage

BLACK HAWK COUNTY (KWWL)

Black Hawk County residents impacted and cleaning up from Wednesday's flash flooding are being reminded to report damage to the Black Hawk County Emergency Management Agency as quickly as possible.

Emergency Management is urging homeowners, renters and landlords of Black Hawk County to call 2-1-1 to report any damages sustained from the Wednesday, July 7 flash flooding event. Damages from sewer backup or ground water seepage are of particular interest, along with other personal property damage related to recent flash flooding. Information to report during your 2-1-1 call includes homeowner or resident's name, address, telephone number, age of oldest resident in household, type of damage with general overview of items damaged, and whether or not the homeowner has insurance coverage for the damages incurred. Also indicate if you need assistance with basement clean- up.

From a land line telephone, dial 2-1-1 directly between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., Monday -Saturday. If calling from a cell phone, dial 1-866-469-2211. If you prefer, you can provide the above information in an email to the 2-1-1 Call Center at 211information@hacap.org.

This information will be used by Black Hawk County and municipalities therein, and will be provided to the Mayor of the city for a particular address or if the address is in unincorporated Black Hawk County, to the Board of Supervisors. The purpose of this information gathering effort is to help assess human resource needs and the extent of damages in seeking assistance from the State of Iowa via the Governor's Office and working with volunteer organizations that provide help during disasters.
