The Falls holds largest swim meet in Iowa

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL)-- There is just something about the smell of chlorine and sun block that brings more than six hundred swimmers to the falls aquatic center.

"Its just really fun and it's like everybody has a good time and outdoor we don't get that many chances to come," said Minnesota swimmer Hannah Sundt.

Swimmers come to participate at this meet from all over the Midwest.

Meet officials say this is the biggest meet they have had in the three years it has taken place.

"This is one of the desired meets in the summer. We actually have to close the meet. We open the meet on May third at midnight and the meet closed in 11 minutes. So we turned away probably close to 400 swimmers," said meet director Jon Wessels.

This meet can be measured in hundreds, hundreds of swimmers competing, hundreds of workers, and hundreds of dollars for the Cedar Valley.

"This is obviously huge for the Cedar Valley with this many kids coming into town most from out of the area. A lot of hotel stays, a lot of restaurant use, so its great. Last year I think they figured well over one hundred thousand dollars so that is great," said Wessels.

The meet will conclude on Sunday.
