Radio Dubuque raises $110,000 for Bellevue victims

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- Thursday hundreds of people came together to support a community still in shock over the tragic events in Bellevue last Sunday.  From 6:00 A.M. till 10:00 A.M. DJ's opened the airwaves to take calls for local people to pledge money to families who were impacted by the accident.  Phone bank volunteers collected cash donations up to more than $110,000.

"It is often said tragedy pulls people together. This morning our community showed both character and heart by their rapid response and generous donations. Diamond Jo is grateful to be a part of our community's ongoing recovery efforts," Bellevue resident and Chief Operating Officer, Peninsula Gaming, Diamond Jo Casinos' parent company, Jonathan Swain said.

Earlier this week, Diamond Jo Casino challenged the community to help support Bellevue Parade Victim Fund by offering a dollar for dollar match up to $50,000.

"Tri-State residents always come through when the call is put out for help and today was no different. The money raised will be put to use by our friends and neighbors in their time of need," Radio Dubuque General Manager Tom Parsley said.

The radio stations; AM 1370 KDTH, 92.9KAT-FM, 97.3 The Rock and 101.1 The River were prepared for rapid rate of callers and welcomed special guests from Bellevue.

People are encouraged to send donations to Bellevue Parade Victims Fund, c/o Bellevue State Bank, PO Box 47, Bellevue, Iowa or drop off donations at participating drop off locations:
