Fayette police target kids for safety

FAYETTE (KWWL) - The Fayette Police Department will begin targeting children... to reward them for safe behavior.

When an officer observes a child doing something safe, the child will get a mock citation which will earn them a free Frosty at Wendy's.

It's part of the "I Got Caught" program.  The program's intention is to reward children ages 2-13 for doing safe things such as wearing helmets, riding their bikes the right way or other safe behavior.

When a child gets a "citation," they are also entered into a drawing for a free bike.

Using the same concept as the "I Got Caught" program, if a member of the Fayette Police Department observes a person setting a good example, they can receive a citation good for an ice cream cone from a local business.

The goal of both programs is to encourage safe and courteous behavior, preventing injury to youth while building the community bond between citizens and police.
