Water shut off at Palisades-Kepler State Park

MOUNT VERNON — The DNR has shut down the water system at Palisades-Kepler State Park in Linn County following a well failure.

The Monday night failure caused the drinking water distribution system to lose pressure, creating the potential for bacterial contamination.

Park staff has replaced the well pump, pipe and wiring. The DNR will disinfect the drinking water well with higher levels of chlorine, and then take samples to determine if the water is safe for drinking.

The DNR will turn the water back on at the park after test results show the system is bacterially safe.
