Free H1N1 shots available in July

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- Linn County Public Health will be holding free H1N1 vaccination clinics in July for the public.

Even after the H1N1 epidemic seems to have gone dormant, the Center for Disease Control is still encouraging people to get the vaccination if they want to protect against future H1N1 outbreaks.  The CDC says that vaccination against the virus is very important at this time, because people may be taking vacations to areas where H1N1 cases are still occurring.  The United States could also experience an early flu season this year, which increases the risk of the virus re-surfacing.

In the fall, the H1N1 vaccine will be part of the seasonal flu vaccine for which there will be a charge.  Free clinics will be offered by Linn County Public Health at the following locations:

  • Linn County Fairgrounds on July 9 from noon to 6:00 p.m. and July 10 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  These clinics will be walk-in and open to everybody.
  • Linn County Public Health in Cedar Rapids on July 19 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and July 8, 15, and 22 from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  These clinics will be by appointment only and open to everybody.  To schedule an appointment, call 892-6093.
