Arraignment set for driver of crash that killed Waverly student

BREMER COUNTY (KWWL) - A teenager is due in court next month for a crash that killed Waverly Shell-Rock student Josh Young in March.

Friday, trial information was filed charging Alexander Pothast with Homicide by Vehicle, a Class B Felony. Subsequent to the filing an arrest warrant was issued with a bond of $25,000.

Pothast voluntarily presented himself to the Bremer County Sheriff's Office on the arrest warrant. The Defendant was released after posting $25,000 bond and under the condition of supervision by the Second Judicial Department of Corrections pending trial.

Arraignment is currently set for August 2, 2010 at 9:30 a.m.

According to court documents, a Bremer County sheriff's deputy testified Pothast told him he had been drinking before the March 21st crash. A blood sample taken after the crash found Pothast's blood alcohol level at .158, court records said.

Pothast faces up to 25 years in prison.
