DUBUQUE (KWWL) - Dan Schmidt and his children were in Bellevue Sunday waiting for the Heritage Days Parade on July 4th.

Schmidt says, "The boys were in the street and Aden was out in the street just a little farther than Adam."

The children were running into the street to grab candy, when it happened: "They were watching the parade go by, and all at once it was there."

Something spooked two horses.  They ran down Riverview Drive, pulling a carriage... headed right for the pair.

4-year-old Aden was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque.  He's now at home.

6-year-old Adam was taken to Finley Hospital.

"He's come along well. He's ready to get out of here and go home," says Schmidt.
