WATERLOO (KWWL) -- If you're looking for a way to add a boost to your workout, fast-selling toning shoes claim to improve the benefits to your leg muscles and more. But with some pairs costing over one hundred dollars, are they worth the expense?
Doctor David Westerdahl says the shoes work by forcing the muscles of the lower leg to work harder as you're standing and walking.
"They may notice a mild improvement in their tone and muscle strength in their lower legs, but I'm not sure actually be able to truly see those results," Dr. Westerdahl said.
If you do invest in a pair Dr. Westerdahl recommends using them no longer than 20 minutes at first and gradually building up.
Some experts say users can get the same benefit by walking an extra block in regular shoes.
